I have an Ultra60 running 2.99 with some external SCSI disk cache, a
DLT4000 tape drive and an internal SCSI Yamaha 16/10/40 cd writer. My
problem is that I cannot burn a files to a blank cd on the Yamaha cd
wrtier. When using Gnome or KDE, I can load a blank cd in the drive
and it will show up on the desktop, but I cannot burn files using CD
Writer or Gnome CD Master. With KDE cd roast told me that I did not
have the right device and it seems like it was looking for an IDE
device instead of SCSI. The drive does not really appear to mount with
a blank disk in the drive and I have not been able to successfully
mount it manually. I can load a disk with files alraedy on it,
although is does not seem to auto-mount, and read files after manually
mounting the device. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make
this cd writer fully functional?

$man cdrecord

I don't mean to be glib, but it really is the best way. Check dmesg | grep -i cd and do all the sensible command line research and diagnosis first, especially cdrecord -scanbus and then with checkdrive and driveropts=help once you've confirmed it's address.

I've got an admittedly pretty crappy USB CD writer hanging off my Ultra60 that doesn't seem to like 2.99 much, although it's worked in previous releases.

Cheers.
